We hope you can join us to relax and restore alongside cats – in one of our pur-fect yoga classes!

Hatha Yoga With Cats

While our volunteer instructor, Jan Carfagno, guides us though a Hatha yoga practice incorporating pranayama (breath extension or breath control) and movement through postures (asana) linking the breath with movement, our adoptable kitties get in on the positive vibrations of the practice. They’ll play, purr and may want our attention while sharing in our energy.

This 1 hour class is suitable for all levels and modifications will be given so your practice is beneficial for you.  The class includes 1 free hot Keurig beverage (tea and coffee varieties) and some time with Jan after class.

Yoga With Cats

Our certified volunteer instructor, Erin Marshall, will guide you through a peaceful and purposeful yoga class amidst the friendly, inquisitive companionship of our resident cats.

This 1 hour class is suitable for all skill levels and allows you to work at your own pace and level of difficulty. Whether you are new to yoga or practice regularly, you’ll enjoy the unique experience of stretching and posing while cats climb over you, purr in your ear, share your mat, or simply gaze from a distance.  The class includes 1 free hot Keurig beverage.

Who Can Attend

The course is for:

  • Humans only – do not bring your cats to this class; there are plenty of adoptable cats joining in with you!
  • Participants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Do not attend if you have any type of cat allergy.
  • If you have any physical limitations or injuries, consult with your doctor before taking this class.
  • The course is suitable for all skill levels; beginners through advanced.

What to Expect

Jan Carfagno– Jan began her fitness teaching journey many years ago as an ACSM group fitness instructor at Stay-Trim exercise center in Folsom. After they closed, she continued teaching dance fitness, body shaping and step classes at various studios and gyms in Delaware County including, The Sports Club in Woodlyn. While her kids were in nursery and elementary schools, she had volunteered there, teaching creative movement and after school fitness classes. Since then, Jan has earned a Communications Degree at Neumann University and has a varied background in communications and all aspects of theater. Currently, she is a Barre Above nationally certified Barre instructor, previously teaching at Karma Yoga and Barre, and now at Salsa in the Suburbs Dance Studio (SITS) in Media and Cat Nook Cafe in Norwood.  Jan is on track to graduate with her 200 hour teacher certification in October 2019 through YogaFit Worldwide and will be earning a 200 hour RYT designation. After teaching 8 hours of required community yoga (Karma yoga) she developed a six week series of Chakra yoga classes which was well attended at SITS. She has been practicing regularly for 3 years with Rebecca Damia and other experienced teachers and has benefited throughout the last ten years from intermittent yoga classes in various styles. She holds a PA license in Cosmetology and has a Reiki Level 2 designation.

Erin Marshall has been an avid yoga practitioner for six years and has experience teaching people of all ages. She earned her YTT 200 certification at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Center for Integrated Health. Erin views yoga as the art of connecting to yourself. By increasing your own sense of self-awareness, you naturally deepen your connections to the larger world.

  • Yoga blocks – if you regularly use blocks, or have blocks, please bring them.

Relax and pose in a comfortable environment among the most agile, flexible and incredible stretchers around, the cats!
